Britpop fans were crying into their ale this week, when Noel Gallagher announced that he was quitting Oasis, the beloved band he formed almost two decades ago with his brother/enemy, Liam. Following the Manchester group's last-minute decision to pull out of their appearance at the Paris Rock en Seine festival this week (organizers allegedly displayed a message explaining that an "altercation" had caused the cancellation), Noel posted the following wry and characteristically outspoken statement on Oasisinet.com on Friday:
"It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."
